This guide will provide MUS 120 students with a general library orientation including resources and strategies for accessing print and non-print resources about opera singers and operas.

Locate Online Articles with Gale Literary Sources

CONTENTS: 

  • Covers writers from around the world, across all time periods, and from all literary discplines: short stories, poetry, drama and novels (and a few films).
  • Offers reprints and excerpts of biographies, literary criticisms, overviews, reviews and bibliographies. Includes titles like Literature-Film Quarterly, Cinema Journal and other related journals and reference works.
INSTRUCTIONS:
 
1. From the library's home page, click on Databases (link under the search box), click on Gale Literary sources (See Remote Accesss box for username)
 
2. Try the following Advanced Search or create your own search. You can leave the KEYWORD or change for a more broad search use ALL TEXTNOTE: The asterisk * for all forms of the word, ex. symbol* = symbolism, symbolic, symbolizes, symbolically, etc.

3. Focus on the tab that includes the information you need.  
 
4. Browse through the results and click on ones that support your thesis.
 
5. Narrow your results by searching for keywords "within these results"
 
6. To search within a publication, search for keywords "within this publication". 
 
7. To hear an audio version of the article, click the Listen button.
 
 
 
8NOTE: Search for a word on any web page by holding down the Control and F keys on a PC, Apple and F on a Mac.
 
9. Citations are available for each article. The MLA citation will be sent to you when you email articles. 
 
 
 
 
10. Use the Tools menu to Cite, Send to, print, share link, etc.  You can also Translate or listen to the text.
